Hello fellow travelers! Thank you so much for your patience as I continue my Komodo Island Tour review. As a blogger and reviewer, I had a slight delay due to other activity, but I assure you that this review will be packed with even more detailed and valuable insights than Part 1. If you haven’t had the chance to read Part 1 yet, feel free to check it out by following this link Komodo tour review 2025 part 1.
After sharing my experience in Bali—Tripadvisor’s No 2 most visited destination worldwide in 2025—it’s time to take you on a more personal, detailed journey through my unforgettable experience on Komodo Island in Flores Indonesia. My adventure started before I reached Labuan Bajo, and I couldn’t be more excited to tell you about it.
Let’s begin my story review…
The Day Before My Komodo Island Tour – Personal Experience Review
Better to Be Prepared than to Regret It
After my visit to Nusa Penida, I decided to rest and enjoy some late-night local delicacies. But let’s skip the irrelevant details and get right to it—the day before my Komodo adventure. I had initially planned to take a Go-Car, Grab, or Uber from my villa to Ngurah Rai Airport.
However, Mr. Bagus from Bali Premium Trip kindly offered me a ride as he had a guest arriving from Singapore. I thought, “Why not?” and accepted the generous offer. It turned out to be an excellent decision, as the ride was comfortable and stress-free, thanks to Bali Premium Trip’s seamless service. Their parent company, Juara Holding Group, has a brilliant business ecosystem connecting every part of your Indonesian journey, eliminating unnecessary hassles.
I was relieved to travel without worrying about logistics. Personally, I love using a single company for my entire trip—whether it’s rides, accommodation, or other services—because it’s far easier than dealing with multiple companies while traveling. Can anyone else relate?
Once I reach the ngurah rai Bali airport, I thank and say goodbye to Mr. Bagus from the Bali premium trip and continue my boarding to Komodo Airport by way of the domestic flight with a 1-hour flight. I read an article before planning this trip called “How to trip from Bali to Komodo Island“.
While on board, I also read another great Guide for taking a trip to Komodo National Park; it contains warnings, what to bring, and any other details we may have forgotten or must know so we can enjoy our Komodo tour fully. You can read this great and really helpful article Complete Guide to Komodo National Park
As you can see at the Video, here I am at Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo. I’m so excited! The moment I grab my suitcase, I can smell adventure in the air. Since the airport is small, it was a short walk and we were able to pick up our luggage quickly. As soon as I arrive, I intend to use Go-Car or Grab from the airport service, but neither is available, so I have no choice but to use an airport taxi.

Komodo Luxury offers free airport pickup for the day of the trip, but it may only be for the day of the trip. I booked the day before because I wanted to relax first before going on my adventure tomorrow, as the Komodo luxury support told me. I guess I should prepare for the unpredictable schedule.
As the evening descended upon Labuan Bajo, I found myself enveloped in a sense of overwhelming peace and contentment. The gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore created a soothing rhythm, while the faint chatter of fellow travelers in the distance added to the charm of the moment. The warm glow of the setting sun cast a golden hue over the port, and in that moment, I felt as though the world had slowed down, offering the perfect prelude to the adventure awaiting us the next day.

Curious to explore, I wandered around the port area, where I discovered a collection of charming, cozy restaurants that beckoned with their inviting ambiance. The air was rich with the scents of fresh seafood, grilled meats, and spices, each one tantalizing my senses. I found myself drawn to a small seafood joint with outdoor seating, where I indulged in local delicacies. The flavors were vibrant, with the seafood incredibly fresh, each bite an explosion of taste that perfectly complemented the salty breeze that played through the evening air.

Alongside the seafood, I savored a hearty dish of rice with tender chicken, the kind of comfort food that felt like a warm embrace after a day of exploring. As I sipped on freshly pressed juice, I couldn’t help but feel the harmony between the island’s flavors and the peaceful surroundings—this was dining at its finest.
After my meal, I continued my exploration and stumbled upon the lively Labuan Bajo Night Market. The atmosphere was electric, filled with a multitude of food stalls, street vendors, and small shops that offered a kaleidoscope of tempting snacks and beverages. I couldn’t resist the allure of the vibrant displays, each stall showcasing something new and exciting to try. From crispy fried treats to sweet, fragrant pastries, the market offered a true taste of local culture. The delicious aromas wafting through the air drew me in, and before long, I found myself sampling a few of the street food delights. Each bite was a new experience, rich with the island’s flavors and traditions, making my visit to the market feel even more authentic.

As the night began to settle in, I continued to explore the Labuan Bajo port area, my curiosity guiding me through its winding streets. My first stop was the Mosque Agung Nurul Falaq, where the serene surroundings provided a moment of quiet reflection. The peaceful atmosphere of the mosque added to the sense of tranquility that had already enveloped me.
Next, I visited the bustling night market area, which offered a mix of local products and international chains like Starbucks and a nearby alcohol shop, offering a variety of drinks for those looking to unwind. The combination of the old and new added an interesting contrast to the area, showcasing Labuan Bajo’s unique blend of tradition and modernity. I also stopped by a well-known coffee shop to enjoy a quiet moment with a cup of freshly brewed coffee, reflecting on the day’s discoveries.
Eventually, the evening began to wind down, and I made my way back to the hotel, my senses still alive with the flavors and sounds of the port. As I sank into bed, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of anticipation for the adventure that lay ahead. The next day promised to be something extraordinary, and I was ready to experience it all—Komodo Island and the wonders it held were just within reach. With a smile on my face, I drifted off to sleep, feeling grateful for this peaceful evening and excited for what the morning would bring.
Day 1: The Epic Journey to Komodo National Park Review
The day arrived! The excitement was palpable as the first chapter of my Komodo Island adventure was about to unfold. But before heading to the Labuan Bajo port, I decided to take a morning stroll to soak in the atmosphere of the town and enjoy the tranquility of the morning sky. The early hours in Labuan Bajo are serene, and the sun gently bathed the town in soft hues of orange and blue. The air was crisp, and the sky above was a perfect shade of blue, offering a peaceful backdrop to the bustling port.

As I walked along the road leading toward the port, I encountered several locals going about their daily routines. A schoolgirl, her backpack bouncing with each step, walked briskly toward her school, her morning journey filled with purpose. Nearby, some people were out for a morning run, energizing themselves as the town slowly woke up.

Along the way, I also noticed several merchants setting up stalls, offering traditional breakfast snacks, fresh fruit, and locally made goods. Some were selling songket—beautiful, handwoven cloths with intricate patterns that are a hallmark of Labuan Bajo’s culture. The vibrant colors of these traditional textiles added a touch of heritage to the scene, reminding me of the island’s rich cultural history.

Walking further, I passed a lively seafood market. Fishermen, their hands deftly sorting fresh catches, were busy preparing their morning sales. The scent of fresh fish and crustaceans filled the air, and the sight of glistening seafood on display made me eager to try the local delicacies later. It was evident that the port area was a bustling hub of activity, where both locals and travelers converged to start their day.

As I approached the Labuan Bajo Blue Port, I could see boats being prepared for the day’s activities, with workers unloading supplies and passengers eagerly waiting to board. The energy was infectious, and it was clear that the journey to Komodo National Park was about to begin. On the other side, I also noticed Labuan Bajo Red Port, a significant point for the island’s maritime activities. The contrast between the two ports symbolized the dynamic and lively nature of this fishing village, which has gradually transformed into a popular travel destination.
Two hours before our scheduled departure, I received a notification from Komodo Luxury that the pickup would arrive between 9 AM and 10 AM to escort us to KP 3 Port, where our Komodo Island tour would begin. The pickup service was included in the package, so it was ultimately free and ensured we wouldn’t miss our boat.
The Komodo Adventure Begins

It was crowded when I arrived at the port, likely due to the holiday season, but this added to the excitement. Merchants offered me traditional items like Bajo pattern songket cloths to buy.
As I considered purchasing one, our friendly guide from komodo luxury, Venan (left side), introduced himself. He accompanied us throughout our 3-day, 2-night journey through Komodo National Park, and he was instantly approachable and warm. Moreover, I met Labuan Bajo’s Instagram & TikTok influencer, Rikardus Gopong (right side), with hundreds thousand of followers. He is also one of the Komodo luxury guides, which is cool and friendly.

Before boarding the boat, we gathered in the Marina Labuan Bajo, which serves as the waiting room at KP3 Port. The area was spacious and provided a comfortable place to relax before embarking on the journey. To ensure the safety of all guests, we scanned a barcode from our smartphones, a process made easy with a code provided by our Komodo Luxury guide. This barcode scan automatically filled in our details, streamlining the boarding process and ensuring that the company had the necessary information in case of an emergency.

Once the barcode was scanned, our luggage was sent ahead on the first Skoci (mini-speedboat) to be transported to the luxury boat. Afterward, guests were invited to board the second Skoci, which took us to our Phinisi luxury boat. The boat ride was quick—just 2 to 5 minutes—before we arrived aboard the Lamborajo 3, the luxury boat I had chosen for this trip.
Liveaboard in Luxury Phinisi Boat

We were warmly greeted with refreshing drinks, a perfect way to start our journey, as we immediately felt the cooling breeze of Labuan Bajo caress our faces. As we settled in, we were escorted to the spacious lounge area, where Komodo Luxury’s guide, Venan, began the briefing about our Komodo Island tour.

While we sipped our drinks, Venan carefully explained the itinerary for the day, making sure we understood what to expect from our 3-day, 2-night adventure. He also provided some important rules about life aboard the Lamborajo 3. The boat would be our home for the duration of the trip, and just like a home, we were reminded to take care of it. The crew aboard this luxury Phinisi boat would be our family for the next few days, always available to assist us with anything we needed—just ask, and they would help.
The Lamborajo 3 is a magnificent example of traditional Indonesian craftsmanship combined with modern luxury. The boat, designed to mimic the sleek, elegant Phinisi style, is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, including spacious cabins, multiple lounging areas, and a stunning dining room. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident in every corner of the boat, from the beautiful woodwork to the inviting design that seamlessly blends both comfort and style.
After Venan’s thorough briefing, the boat crew kindly assisted us in moving our luggage to our assigned rooms. The service was incredibly attentive, ensuring that everything was handled with care.
I was assigned a master cabin, and I must say, it was absolutely gorgeous! The cabin was a perfect blend of comfort and elegance, offering both privacy and a touch of luxury. It featured a private Jacuzzi, where I could unwind while taking in the stunning views from the back of the boat. The room’s design was beautifully done, with rich wood paneling, plush bedding, and large windows that allowed for uninterrupted views of the ocean and surrounding islands.
The ambiance was calm and relaxing, ideal for moments of peace after a day of adventure. I even made a quick video tour of the cabin, which I’ll be sharing to give you a closer look at this luxurious space.
After the quick rest, we prepared ourselves for the first destination of our Komodo Island tour—Sebayur Island, where we would enjoy a snorkeling session in the crystal-clear waters, surrounded by vibrant marine life. The day was just beginning, and I couldn’t wait to dive into the underwater paradise that awaited us.
Sebayur Island Snorkeling Adventure
Our first snorkeling stop was Sebayur Island. The water here was shallow enough to easily see vibrant coral and fish just a few feet below the surface. We spent about 15-30 minutes snorkeling, although we noticed a few dead coral areas. Our guide reminded us to avoid standing on coral, as it’s crucial for maintaining the ecosystem.
Coral reefs are vital to marine life, providing habitat and food for a diverse range of species. They also protect coastlines from erosion and contribute to local economies through tourism and fishing. Preserving these fragile ecosystems is essential for maintaining biodiversity and supporting the livelihoods of communities that depend on them.

Snorkeling enthusiasts can practice sustainability by using reef-safe sunscreen to avoid harming marine life. They should also maintain a safe distance from coral and marine animals to prevent accidental damage or disturbance. Additionally, taking any trash with them and supporting local conservation efforts can help protect these precious ecosystems for future generations.
After snorkeling, we enjoyed a hearty meal prepared by the ship’s chef. The food was incredible—chicken, fish, scrambled eggs, tempeh, salad, and broccoli. And let me tell you, it was a luxurious feast! The portions were generous, and the spread included a variety of mouth-watering dishes, making it easy to indulge in whatever appealed to your taste.
The buffet-style meals ensured no one was left hungry, and the staff was always ready with drinks, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Everything was free, including snacks and soft drinks, though beer was available for an additional charge (IDR 50,000).
Whether you were in the mood for something light or a full meal, the Komodo Luxury chefs ensured that everyone was satisfied. We had the freedom to enjoy lunch at our own pace, in the cozy dining area, or even outside in the open air, while taking in the beautiful surroundings. It was the perfect prelude to the adventures that awaited us.
Manta Point & Taka Makasar Review
As part of our unforgettable Komodo Island tour, we had the opportunity to visit two remarkable destinations: Manta Point and Taka Makasar. In every spot, we were able to enjoy a unique experience that left us with a lasting impression.
While one offered the thrilling chance to swim alongside majestic manta rays, the other provided a serene, picturesque escape on a small sand island, perfect for relaxation and photography.
The decision between the two destinations split our group, but I made sure that I had the opportunity to experience both firsthand, in order to provide a detailed experience of both of these locations.

Manta Point: An Underwater Adventure with Manta Rays
The way they moved, with fluid and deliberate motion, was mesmerizing. Watching them gracefully dance in the ocean’s depths felt almost surreal. These majestic creatures, with their gentle and serene nature, seemed to embody the beauty of the marine world.
Our journey to Manta Point began with anticipation and excitement. This diving spot, renowned for being a place where manta rays can often be encountered, presented a thrilling opportunity—though the chance of seeing one was a 60/40 proposition. The sea was rough that day, with strong currents, but our group was undeterred. We suited up in our snorkeling gear, ready for the adventure ahead.
As we plunged into the water, the current tugged at us, but we pushed forward, determined to see what lay beneath the waves. It wasn’t long before we spotted them—manta rays gliding effortlessly through the water below us. The sight was nothing short of magical. There were several manta rays, their enormous wingspans cutting through the water like graceful birds in flight.

The opportunity to witness manta rays in their natural habitat is something truly special. Their size, elegance, and grace served as a reminder of why it is so important to protect these incredible animals and the oceans they call home. We left Manta Point feeling a deep sense of gratitude, having had the privilege of witnessing such a rare and beautiful encounter.
Taka Makasar: A Photographer’s Paradise

After the exhilarating experience at Manta Point, we made our way to Taka Makasar, a small sand island surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters. This uninhabited island is a photographer’s paradise, with its pristine white sands and shallow, warm waters. It was the perfect spot to unwind and take in the natural beauty surrounding us.
The crew provided us with cool drinks, which were a welcome refreshment after our snorkeling session. As we relaxed on the sand, we marveled at the view—lush green islands on the horizon, the perfect contrast to the endless blue sea and the white sands beneath our feet.

Others in the group chose to relax on the soft, powdery sand, soaking up the warm sun and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. This serene ambiance was the perfect backdrop for a moment of calm and peace, and it is easy to forget the stress of the world when you are surrounded by such a calm environment accompanied by the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore.
Being in such a tranquil setting made me feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and contentment. . In that moment, I felt connected to nature and at peace with myself.

The island’s tranquil atmosphere offered a sharp contrast to the excitement of our previous adventure. Some of us decided to snorkel in the shallow waters, where vibrant coral reefs teemed with colorful fish. The water was clear, and the marine life was plentiful, making it an idyllic spot for underwater exploration.

At Taka Makasar, the day was a blend of exhilaration and relaxation. Whether you were snorkeling in the shallow waters or simply enjoying the sun, this stunning island offered something for everyone. It was a perfect conclusion to our day of exploration, allowing us to reflect on the wonders of the marine world we had just witnessed.
The day we spent at Manta Point and Taka Makasar was truly unforgettable. From the exhilarating experience of swimming with manta rays to the tranquil relaxation on a beautiful sand island, every moment was filled with awe and wonder. These two destinations reminded us of the incredible diversity of the natural world and the importance of preserving it for future generations. It was a day that left us with a deep appreciation for the marine life in Komodo National Park and the stunning landscapes that surround it.
A Tranquil Day at Sea: Preparing for Komodo Dragon Encounters

As the day drew to a close, we made our way back to the boat, the excitement of the day still fresh in our minds, but with the promise of an even more thrilling adventure ahead. We eagerly anticipated dinner, knowing the crew would serve up something special.
Our first meal aboard the boat was a feast, featuring crispy fried squid, tender black pepper beef, perfectly cooked eggs, sautéed long beans, and golden potatoes. Every dish was bursting with flavor, and the portion sizes were generous, making it the perfect end to a day of exploration. we returned to the boat and eagerly anticipated dinner. Our first dinner consisted of fried squid, black pepper beef, eggs, long beans, and potatoes. Everything was delicious, and the portion sizes were generous.

As we savored the last bites of our meal, Komodo Luxury guide, Venan, gathered us to outline the activities planned for the next day. We would rise early for a sunrise trek on Padar Island, followed by a visit to the world-famous Pink Beach and, of course, the opportunity to meet the legendary Komodo Dragons—an encounter that had been at the top of my bucket list for years. The thought of all these incredible experiences had me buzzing with anticipation, and I couldn’t wait for the new chapter in this epic adventure to begin.
Later, as the night unfolded and I looked up at the stars, I was filled with a deep sense of peace and excitement. The clear sky above, dotted with countless twinkling stars, was a reminder of the vast beauty of the world around us. Lying under the expanse of the night sky, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement for what lay ahead. It was a moment where the worries of the day faded away, replaced by a profound connection to the universe.

The promise of the following day was enough to send a thrill through my body—the anticipation of witnessing a breathtaking sunrise over Padar Island, the allure of the unique Pink Beach, and the unmatched thrill of encountering the awe-inspiring Komodo Dragons made my heart race. Every moment in this extraordinary journey seemed to weave together a tapestry of unforgettable experiences, each more breathtaking than the last.
Day 2: Komodo Island Tour Review- Padar Sunrise, Komodo Dragon Tour, Instagrammable Pink Beach
The Majestic Sunrise at Padar Island Experience

On Day 2 of our Komodo Island tour, we began our adventure with an early morning trek up Padar Island to witness one of the most iconic sunrises in Indonesia. Despite the early hour and our sleepy eyes, the excitement of capturing stunning photos and creating unforgettable memories kept us going. After a light early breakfast, We donned our mountain sandals or sport shoes—essential for the rocky terrain—and boarded a skoci (small boat) that would take us across the waters to the shores of Padar Island.
As we approached the shore, the low tide allowed us to step off the boat directly onto the beach without needing to dock at a port. The soft sand underfoot and the rugged beauty of the island’s terrain immediately took my breath away. Our Komodo Luxury guide handed over our tickets to the park guards, and we were ready to begin our trek.

Once on the padar island, we took a moment to walk along the beach, enjoying the tranquility that surrounded us. With the tide low, the beach was wider, allowing us to leisurely stroll along the shore, feeling the cool, refreshing breeze and taking in the stunning coastal views. As we walked, we passed through an area with broken rocks scattered along the beach—remnants of the island’s rugged geological history. The jagged edges of the rocks, weathered by time and the elements, added an adventurous feel to the journey.
We continued toward the entrance of the Padar Island trek, where the path began. The first steps of the trek led us over this rocky terrain, adding a bit of challenge right from the start, but the beauty of the landscape kept us going. With each step, the excitement of what was to come built up—this was just the beginning of what would surely be an unforgettable day.
I recommend wearing sturdy footwear to avoid any accidents, as I mentioned in this detailed guide: Komodo Island Travel Tips.
While trekking to Padar Island, there are a few things you need to keep in mind before we continue. Please do not smoke, set fires, fly drones without permission, or litter These guidelines are crucial for preserving the natural beauty and ecosystem of the island. Smoking and setting fires can lead to wildfires, which can devastate the local flora and fauna. Additionally, littering and unauthorized drone usage can disrupt wildlife and spoil the experience for other visitors.

Pos 1: The Start of the Padar Island Journey
The path to the summit began with a wooden stairway that was equipped with a rope on the right side to assist with the climb. This initial stretch wasn’t too difficult, but the rising sun had already begun to paint the landscape in golden hues. As we climbed higher, the first viewpoint, Pos 1 of Padar Island, revealed itself. From here, we could already see sweeping views of the surrounding seas and beaches, and the sight was simply stunning. The cool morning air, the sound of the waves, and the view of the island’s rugged coastline made it a truly special moment.

At Pos 1, the area wasn’t crowded at all, which allowed us to take in the peaceful surroundings. Even the elderly trekkers were making their way up to Pos 2, showing that this hike could be enjoyed by many. I paused here for a while, taking photos and soaking in the serenity of this beautiful part of Padar Island.
Pos 2: A Clearer View of Padar Island and Growing Crowds
After a short and slightly rocky path, we arrived at Pos 2 of Padar Island, where the crowd began to grow. The view from this spot was even more spectacular, offering a clearer sight of our Phinisi boat resting in the waters below. With the sun rising higher in the sky, the entire scene started to glow in the warm morning light, making it the perfect opportunity to snap some photos. It was amazing to witness how the landscape transformed as the day began to unfold.

At this point, I decided to take a break and chat with fellow visitors, some of whom were just as excited as I was to be on this incredible Komodo Island tour. One family shared how thrilled they were to spend time together on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Their joy was infectious, and it reminded me how special these moments are when shared with loved ones.
Pos 3: Steep Climb and Scenic Views of Padar Island
As we continued on our trek, we headed towards Pos 3 of Padar Island, where the path became steeper and the terrain more challenging. The ascent required a bit more effort, and I noticed several visitors pausing to catch their breath. Still, the effort was worth it. At Pos 3, the panoramic view opened up even more, providing a stunning vista of the island’s valleys, beaches, and clear waters.

This was one of the larger spots on the trek, so there was plenty of space for visitors to rest and take in the view. While some were disappointed about not spotting manta rays or baby Komodo dragons, most of us were still in awe of the magnificent landscape surrounding us. The beauty of Padar Island continued to reveal itself with every step, making the journey unforgettable.
Pos 4: Challenging Terrain and Stunning Views of Padar Island
The path from Pos 3 to Pos 4 of Padar Island became significantly steeper and more challenging, with rock formations that required careful footing. The landscape here was rugged, and the climb demanded more focus and agility. I watched as one visitor tripped, but thankfully, they only got their pants dirty, a reminder of the importance of being cautious and wearing sturdy footwear. As we continued, the views from Pos 4 were absolutely breathtaking, with the island’s unique geography on full display.

This part of the trek felt more intense, and many visitors took their time, resting and enjoying the ever-improving views of the island and ocean below. It was clear that the journey to the top of Padar Island was well worth the effort.
Pos 5: The Crowded Peak with the Most Iconic Views of Padar Island
Arriving at Pos 5 of Padar Island, I was greeted by the most crowded spot on the island, which wasn’t surprising given that this location offered the most iconic view of Padar Island. From this vantage point, you could see the famous three bays with their unique crescent shapes, framed by the stunning turquoise water below. The view was absolutely incredible, and I could see why it’s such a popular spot for photos.
While it was a bit crowded, the view was so spectacular that it didn’t detract from the experience. Many visitors were taking photos, sharing their excitement, and admiring the landscape. It was one of those rare moments where you truly feel small in the face of such natural beauty.
Pos 6: The Final Push to the Padar Summit and a Rare Discovery
From Pos 5, we had one last push to the summit at Pos 6 of Padar Island, where the path became sandy and slippery. I witnessed a few travelers struggle with their footwear, losing their sandals as they tried to navigate the terrain. I highly recommend wearing sturdy mountain sandals or shoes with good grip to avoid any accidents, as the path here can be tricky, as mentioned in our Komodo Island Travel Tips.
The final stretch of the trek led to the highest point of Padar Island, and when I reached the summit, I was completely speechless. The view was so breathtaking that I immediately began taking photos and videos to capture the moment. The vastness of the landscape, the rugged beauty of the island, and the clear blue sky above created a scene so magnificent it seemed almost surreal.

At the top, I noticed a rock line that visitors were advised not to cross. Curiosity led me closer, where I encountered a friendly naturalist guide who explained that beyond the rock line was a nest of bald eagles. The guide emphasized the importance of respecting the park’s rules to protect the endangered species in the area. Their message was clear: “We strive to keep the environment safe for the endemic species, so please help us preserve it for future generations.”

Reflection at Sunrise and Continue The Komodo Island Tour
After enjoying the sunrise at Padar Island and the awe-inspiring views, I hurried back down to meet up with my group. Just after we finish the sunrise trek on Padar island, there is an open shop at the entrance.

Once we return to our luxury phinisi boat, our group has a delicious lunch to replenish our strength before meeting the legendary komodo dragon Everyone is buzzing with excitement and a hint of nervousness as we discuss the upcoming encounter with these magnificent creatures. The prospect of seeing the world’s largest lizard in its natural habitat fills us with awe and curiosity. We eagerly exchange stories we’ve heard about their incredible strength and agility, adding to the thrill of the adventure ahead.
Our adventure was just beginning, and I couldn’t wait to meet the legendary Komodo Dragons first!
Nice to Meet You, Mr./Ms. Komodo Dragon

As I had researched before the tour, there are two main islands to spot the Komodo dragons: Komodo Island and Rinca Island. Komodo Island is more secluded and less developed, while Rinca Island is more tourist-friendly, with easier paths and a Komodo Museum for families and children.

Komodo Island offers a more rugged and authentic wildlife experience, with the chance to see Komodo dragons in their natural habitat and fewer tourists around to disturb the environment. On the other hand, Rinca Island provides a more accessible experience, with well-maintained trails and informative guides, making it easier for visitors to safely observe the dragons and learn about their behavior. Both islands offer unique perspectives on these fascinating creatures, catering to different preferences and levels of adventure.
Our group chose Komodo Island, as we were a younger crowd, and it was accessible by skoci. Upon arrival at Komodo Island’s port, I noticed solar-powered lamps along the path, a sign of the island’s effort to minimize energy consumption and preserve the environment.
Sustainable tourism is crucial for preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of destinations like Komodo Island. By using renewable energy sources and implementing eco-friendly practices, the island is able to reduce its carbon footprint and protect its unique ecosystem. This approach not only benefits the environment but also ensures that future generations can continue to enjoy the island’s pristine landscapes.
As we approached the Komodo Island welcome gate, I was thrilled to spot a young Komodo dragon near the port. Our guide mentioned how rare it is to see a baby dragon in the wild, making us a very lucky group.
Baby Komodo dragons are particularly elusive because they spend much of their early life in trees to avoid predators, including adult Komodos. Spotting one is a unique opportunity that offers a glimpse into the early stages of their development. This sighting not only adds to the excitement of the visit but also highlights the importance of preserving their natural habitat.
Once we entered the island, we met our naturalist guides, two experts who ensured our safety throughout the trek. Along the way, we encountered an adult Komodo dragon, calmly resting by the vines. The guides taught us about the history of these incredible creatures, and we were given the opportunity to take photos from a safe distance.

Komodo dragons are the largest living lizards in the world, reaching lengths of up to 10 feet and weighing around 150 pounds. These formidable creatures are native to a few Indonesian islands, including Komodo, and have a history dating back millions of years. They are carnivorous, often hunting in stealth, and are known for their keen sense of smell and powerful bite, making them effective predators in their natural habitat.
The Komodo dragon, with its massive body and flicking tongue, displayed a remarkable sense of calmness, seemingly unbothered by our presence. It occasionally shifted its position to bask in the sunlight, showcasing its impressive size and muscular build. Our guides explained that this reptile’s laid-back demeanor belied its status as an apex predator, capable of surprising speed and agility when hunting its prey.

We continued our trek, spotting Komodo dragon nesting holes and the occasional wild boar or deer. I learned to stay aware of my surroundings, especially with the overgrown vines and rocky paths. One friend broke their flip-flop along the way, but our Komodo Luxury guide kindly lent them their extra footwear—just one example of the excellent service we received.
Meet The Komodo Dragon Oldest Alive In Komodo island, Flores, Indonesia
Eventually, we arrived at a muddy pond where an enormous Komodo dragon, whom I know from the naturalist guide tell me named “King John,” rested majestically. It’s an extraordinary sight to witness these ancient creatures in their natural habitat. Our naturalist guide explained the Komodo’s unique hunting technique, called “sleep hunting,” where they lie still to conserve energy, ambushing prey when it enters their reach.

It’s almost like watching a mythical dragon guarding its treasure, patiently waiting for an unsuspecting adventurer to wander too close. The Komodo’s stealth and patience make it a formidable predator, much like the legendary creatures of fantasy tales. Witnessing this behavior in real life truly blurs the line between myth and reality.
Komodo dragons are carnivorous and have a diverse diet that includes deer, wild boar, and even water buffalo. They rely on their sharp teeth and strong jaws to tear into their prey, and they can eat up to 80% of their body weight in a single meal. These reptiles also have an incredible sense of smell, which they use to detect carrion from several kilometers away, allowing them to scavenge as well as hunt.

Conservation efforts for Komodo dragons focus on protecting their natural habitat and ensuring the species’ survival. This includes establishing protected areas like Komodo National Park, conducting scientific research, and implementing anti-poaching measures. Additionally, education and community involvement programs aim to raise awareness and engage local populations in conservation activities.
While at the pond, I also spotted a baby Komodo dragon, no more than one or two months old. It was perfectly camouflaged in the surrounding bush, but our eagle-eyed guide spotted it and pointed it out. We were fortunate to see these rare creatures up close.

The baby Komodo dragon seemed cautious, moving slowly and deliberately through the underbrush. It frequently paused to survey its surroundings, blending seamlessly with the leaves and branches. Despite its size, it exhibited a keen awareness of potential environmental threats and opportunities
The trekking continued, and our group marveled at how these animals have survived for centuries in such a harsh environment. Before leaving the island, I picked up some local souvenirs, including a wooden Komodo dragon carving and a t-shirt, to support the local economy and bring home a piece of Komodo Island with me.

The visit to Komodo Island was an unforgettable experience that deepened my appreciation for the resilience and adaptability of these remarkable creatures. Observing them in their natural habitat not only provided a glimpse into their ancient world but also underscored the importance of preserving such unique ecosystems.
I left with a sense of wonder and a renewed commitment to conservation efforts that protect these extraordinary species for future generations.
Pink Beach: A Picturesque Paradise
After the trek, we boarded our luxury boat and sailed to the famous Pink Beach in Labuan Bajo. The gentle rocking of the boat and the cool sea breeze created a sense of tranquility that washed over us. As we sailed, the anticipation of reaching the vibrant shores of Pink Beach filled us with excitement. The breathtaking views of the surrounding islands made the journey as memorable as the destination.
As we approached the beach, the crystal-clear waters and stunning pink sands were everything we had read about.

Pink Beach, known for its unique rosy sand, gets its color from microscopic organisms called Foraminifera, which produce red pigment on coral reefs. This natural wonder is one of only a handful of pink beaches worldwide, making it a rare and enchanting destination. The beach is a visual marvel and a testament to the rich marine biodiversity of Komodo National Park.
After swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing, we gathered for a fun group photo with a drone, creating memories of our incredible journey. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling and explore the vibrant underwater world with colorful fish and coral. Kayaking is another popular activity, allowing adventurers to paddle along the serene coastline and enjoy the breathtaking views. For those seeking a more relaxing experience, lounging on the soft pink sands while soaking up the sun provides the perfect way to unwind.

Small shops on the beach sold refreshments, and as with many areas in the region, it’s essential to bring cash in Indonesian Rupiah. Food and drinks were affordable for international visitors, with options like coconut water and local snacks.
Magical Sunset in Kalong Island
After we arrived at the luxurious Phinisi boat, the elegant atmosphere immediately welcomed us. With its comfortable cabins and stunning sea views, we were ready to embark on our journey to Komodo Island. During the trip, the boat gently sailed through kalong islands, offering a peaceful and calming view of nature. As we cruised along the beautiful sea, we headed toward the best spot to enjoy the sunset, which bathed the sky in captivating golden hues.

Suddenly, a small boat approached our luxurious Phinisi, with local children aboard eager to sell us their handmade souvenirs. Their determination and the beauty of their crafts touched our hearts, prompting many of us to make a purchase. It was a memorable interaction that added a special touch to our journey, as we admired the children’s efforts and took home a piece of Kalong Island’s charm.
Some of us decided to have fun by jumping from the boat into the open sea, feeling the refreshing splash of water invigorate our senses. Meanwhile, others tried their hand at paddleboarding, gliding smoothly across the ocean’s surface under the warm glow of the setting sun. These activities added an exhilarating dimension to our adventure, leaving us with cherished memories of our time on Kalong Island.

As the sun began to set on the horizon, we calmly sat on the deck of the boat, savoring the magical moment. While enjoying the breathtaking view, we also watched thousands of bats flying across the twilight sky, creating a unique and amazing sight. The gentle sound of the waves added a sense of tranquility to this beautiful evening atmosphere.
After enjoying the sunset, we moved to the jacuzzi at the top of the boat. With the vast ocean view and the backdrop of the sunset sky, we relaxed in the warm water, feeling as though the world had paused for a moment. The sensation of relaxation in the jacuzzi made us feel even more connected to the surrounding nature, and we enjoyed an extraordinary sense of peace.
As the stars began to twinkle above, we gathered on the deck for a delicious barbecue dinner. The aroma of grilled seafood and marinated meats filled the air, complementing the ocean breeze. Sharing stories and laughter under the starlit sky, we relished the exquisite meal, making the evening truly unforgettable.

As a perfect conclusion, we savored a delicious dinner on board. Every bite tasted even better with the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning views. We reflected on the unforgettable journey, from the sunrise at Padar Island, spotting the Komodo dragons, to immersing ourselves in the beauty of nature.

However, the fun was far from over. After enjoying a satisfying dinner, the night on the Phinisi boat became even more lively. With a glass of alcohol in hand, we gathered on the front deck, excitedly chatting about the unforgettable experiences we had during the Komodo Island tour. We laughed together, sharing stories of the natural beauty, from the mesmerizing sunrise at Padar Island to witnessing the legendary Komodo dragons. The atmosphere grew even warmer as our favorite songs filled the air, and we sang along, creating joyful moments.
The cool night breeze and the soft sound of the waves provided the perfect backdrop as we had fun, dancing and singing on the front deck of the boat. The laughter and camaraderie added to the merriment of the night, making every moment filled with happiness. This cheerfulness marked the end of our day, leaving us with beautiful memories that would never be forgotten, reminding us of a journey that not only captivated our eyes but also brought us closer together.
A Memorable Komodo Island Tour Review
This Komodo Island tour was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will cherish forever. The natural beauty, the majestic creatures, and the exceptional service from Komodo Luxury made this journey unforgettable. I can’t wait to return with my family and continue exploring the wonders of Indonesia.

Their attention to detail and personalized approach ensured that every aspect of the trip was seamless and enjoyable. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights about the island’s history and wildlife. Additionally, the accommodations were top-notch, providing comfort and luxury amid the stunning natural surroundings.
Day 3: Komodo Island Tour – Kelor Island, Baby Sharks, and Snorkeling Paradise

The final day of our Komodo Island adventure began with the most serene sunrise I’ve ever witnessed. I woke up feeling like royalty, soaking in the breathtaking views of Komodo Island. After a delightful breakfast with fresh sandwiches, our Komodo Luxury guide briefed us on the activities for the day. Our plan included a short trek on Kelor Island, a snorkeling adventure at Kanawa Island, and a chance to spot baby sharks.

Exploring Kelor Island: A Trek to Remember
We were ready for the short trek to the top of Kelor Island, but as our guide had warned, the path was steep and challenging. While the trek wasn’t long, it required careful footing, especially for those like me who had a camera in each hand. The small trees on the trail became our allies as we made our way up. The local guide, who had trekked this path countless times, called it a “medium difficulty” trek, but I must say, it felt more challenging for someone new to the terrain.

Despite the difficulty, the views at the top of Kelor Island were worth every step. The stunning panoramic vistas of the surrounding islands and the crystal-clear waters below were a perfect spot for photos. After enjoying the view, our group descended, and the way down proved to be even more challenging, with some visitors slipping here and there. But thankfully, everyone remained safe, and we ended the trek with smiles and unforgettable memories.

Kelor Island Marketplace and Souvenir Shopping

Once we returned from the trek, some of us decided to explore the Kelor Island marketplace, a vibrant collection of tents and stalls where you can buy authentic souvenirs from Komodo Island and Labuan Bajo.

The marketplace buzzed with energy, a lively mix of local vendors calling out their wares and the chatter of tourists bargaining for the best prices. Tourists and local vendors engaged in friendly negotiations, often sharing stories and laughter as they haggled over prices. Many vendors took the opportunity to explain the cultural significance of their handmade items, enriching the tourists’ experience and fostering a genuine connection. These interactions not only benefited the local economy but also provided visitors with a deeper appreciation of the island’s culture and traditions.
I found everything from beautifully carved wooden Komodo dragons to T-shirts, bracelets, necklaces, and refrigerator magnets. Unfortunately, I hadn’t brought enough cash for souvenirs, but I still enjoyed a refreshing iced coffee from one of the beachside warungs (local cafés). Sitting with friends, chatting, and soaking in the island atmosphere was a great way to unwind after the hike.
Baby Shark Spotting: A Unique Experience
Next, I joined the group headed to the back of Kelor Island to search for baby sharks. The low tide made it easy to walk, and though it was a bit far from the warung, it was worth the walk. The waters were clear, and we could see several baby sharks swimming around. Although I wasn’t quick enough to capture a video, it was a fascinating experience. These baby sharks, known as coral sharks, are harmless and very docile, so swimming near them was completely safe.

After our shark spotting adventure, it was time to head back to our luxury boat. We were off to our final snorkeling destination: Kanawa Island.
Snorkeling at Kanawa Island: A Marine Biodiversity Wonderland
Arriving at Kanawa Island, I was immediately captivated by the underwater beauty. The marine life here is abundant, with vibrant coral reefs and schools of colorful fish. I even spotted Nemo himself in the crystal-clear waters! This final snorkeling session was the highlight of our trip, and the rich marine biodiversity made it feel like we were in a natural aquarium.

Some of the group continued their water fun by jumping off the boat into the ocean, while others enjoyed paddleboarding. The luxury boat had excellent facilities, although I noticed some boats in the area also offered jet skis – a great option for those seeking more adventure. Each boat on this tour has different amenities, and I had done my research beforehand to select a premium luxury boat that best suited my needs.
Luxury Boat Experience: Jacuzzi and Relaxation

As we sailed back to Labuan Bajo, I treated myself to a relaxing moment in the private jacuzzi on board. On Day 2, I had also enjoyed the public jacuzzi while watching the sunset—a truly romantic and luxurious experience. After soaking in the warm water and reflecting on the unforgettable adventures, I changed into my homecoming clothes and packed up my things.

I felt a mix of nostalgia and contentment as I thought about the incredible journey we had just completed. Leaving the cruise felt bittersweet, knowing I would miss the camaraderie and breathtaking views. Nonetheless, I carried the memories with me, grateful for the experiences and the new friendships formed along the way.
Saying Goodbye to Komodo Island

As we sailed back to the port, the gentle breeze and the sound of waves seemed to say goodbye, reminding us of the incredible time we had spent in Komodo National Park. After disembarking, our driver from Komodo Luxury took us to the airport for those heading home, while the rest of us returned to our hotel to enjoy the rest of our stay in Labuan Bajo.
We reminisced about the breathtaking landscapes, the vibrant marine life, and the unforgettable encounters with the majestic Komodo dragons. Each moment had brought us closer, forging friendships and creating memories that would last a lifetime. As we settled into the hotel, we looked forward to sharing stories and laughter, savoring the last moments of this remarkable journey.
Once we arrived at Labuan Bajo Port, our Komodo Luxury guide came to notify us that it was time to depart. It was a bittersweet moment, as I had experienced so much beauty and excitement over the past three days. I thanked the crew and the captain for their outstanding service and safe travels.
